Here is a summary of some of the special activities and seminars on the schedule at this year’s Deer Classic:

Outdoor Writers Association of America Traveling Photo Exhibit
The exhibit features 21 prize winning photographs from the Outdoor Writers Association of America annual Excellence in Craft Contest. The photos will represent seven contest categories: action, scenic, flora, fauna, people, outdoor fun and adventure, and family participation/youth outdoor education. Each year our winners include some of America’s best-known outdoor photographers from around the country.

The OWAA Traveling Photo Exhibit is sponsored by Realtree, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and the National Rifle Association.

Tom Dokken’s World Qualifying Shed Dog Hunt Trial
Tom Dokken, of Dokken’s Oak Ridge Kennels in Northfield, will be conducting the World Qualifying Shed Dog Hunt Trial on Saturday, March 7. The hunt will take place on field U2 at the National Sports Center, just southwest from the Schwan Center and adjacent to the stadium field. There is a $25 per dog entry fee to participate in this event. The event will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and it provides very entertaining spectator viewing and a lot of fun for dog lovers, especially kids who love dogs.

Official Trophy Measuring
Attendees are encouraged to bring their antlers or a bear skull to the expo for official measuring by the Minnesota Official Measurers, certified measurers for all national big game record books, such as Boone and Crockett and Pope and Young. Bring your trophy to the official measuring area at the Schwan Center. No pre-registration required and this year it’s free!
